NHAL Elementary School Art Classes
In collaboration with the New Hartford Schools, the NHAL is conducting an after-school art program for Kindergarten through Grade 2. Six classes will be held during the year at both the New Hartford Elementary School and the Bakerville Elementary School. Organized by Bonnie Boyle and assisted by various Art League members, the program is in its third year. There is no charge to the schools or the children for this service.
On October 26 and 27, Bonnie and Karen Meares led the students in a mask-making experience, emphasizing symmetry and color repetition. Children were shown examples of African and Mexican masks with abstract designs. Children then made their own designs using oil crayons and collage materials.

About the Juror: VICTOR LEGER
The inspiration for Victor Leger's painting is the
thrill of thoroughly studying how to paint the light
cascading across a hay field, or changing from moment
to moment on the ripples of water in a lake. He loves
the challenge of trying to recreate as accurately as
possible the natural beauty of light in the environment.
Victor says, “I think when people see a beautifully
painted landscape they instinctively feel they are
seeing in a way that is precious and new.
They notice a radiance ordinarily overlooked.”
Victor attended Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY, as a
Fine Arts Major in Painting, and acquired a Bachelor of
Fine Arts Degree at the San Francisco Art Institute,
and a Master’s Degree in Art Education at Central
Connecticut State University.
He now devotes his time to plein-air oil painting
entirely on site. The landscape he prefers to paint is
the one right around his house and studio—
Winchester Lake and the surrounding Litchfield
County—the rural vistas of Northwestern Connecticut.
Currently Victor is a member of The International
Guild of Realism and Artwell Gallery in Torrington,
Connecticut. He is represented by Sherry French
Gallery in Chelsea, NYC, and Red Sable Gallery and
McPhee Fine Arts, both in New Jersey.
He also presents plein air workshops in the
Litchfield County area.
